The story was about Stanley Algar born in 1899, taking an apprenticeship as a Merchant Seaman, becoming a captain on an oil tanker for Shell and then captured by a German warship and taken prisoner of war. Fortunately, he kept meticulous diaries and a war log which provides a fascinating insight into his life and also the turbulent years of the last century, told enthusiastically and passionately by his son Philip Algar.
The St Anne’s Hall crowd was spellbound. Thank you Mr Algar
